"When You lot Tell Me That You lot Dearest Me" is a 1991 song by American soul singer Diana Ross. The song was written past Albert Hammond and John Bettis, and produced past Peter Asher. The song was later covered by various artists.

"When Y'all Tell Me That You Love Me" was released as the lead single on Baronial 20, 1991, from Diana Ross's 1991 album The Force Behind the Ability released on the Motown label in the US and by EMI in the UK. The song, a sentimental ballad, was the anthology's biggest hit, peaking at number thirty-seven on the US Billboard R&B singles chart while peaking at number-two on the Britain Singles Chart. Ross considers it i of her signature songs.[one] The UK release included her 1985 hit "Chain Reaction".[2]

It missed the UK Christmas number one spot for 1991 past a couple of hundred units, beaten out by the re-release of Queen's "Maverick Rhapsody" commemorating the passing of lead singer, Freddie Mercury. The single was awarded a Silverish Disc for UK sales exceeding 200,000 copies.

Critical reception [edit]

Larry Motion picture from Billboard described the vocal every bit "a dramatically produced power ballad. Gratefully, track is less trend-witting than Ross' more contempo efforts, though this is far from her strongest piece of work. Regardless, diehard fans volition love information technology—every bit will AC radio programmers."[3] Alex Henderson and Bryan Devaney from Cashbox chosen it a "highly commercial pop carol" and a "slick single".[iv] In their album review, the magazine deemed information technology a "potential hit" and a "dramatic carol".[v] A reviewer from Liverpool Echo wrote, "And while Diana Ross's vocalisation couldn't be more unlike, this track does have some of that radio-friendly mode." The reviewer added, "It starts like a sophisticated ballad, with tranquillity piano and voice. and builds into an emotional climax, complete with a bit of rock guitar. It's perfectly produced and perfectly anticipated."[half-dozen] Newcastle Evening Relate noted that the vocalist is "in romantic mood" on the song.[seven]
